COVID-19 has caused over 20,000 deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean

The new coronavirus caused more than 20,000 deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean, more than half of them in Brazil, according to a count based on official data from AFP, 10 May.
With a total of 20,150 deaths and 359,975 infections, Latin America is the hardest hit region after Europe and North America.

The hardest hit country in the region is Brazil, which has a total count of 10,627 deaths, representing more than half of all deaths in the Latin America and Caribbean. Mexico reported 3,353 deaths and Ecuador 2,127.

The Covid-19 pandemic caused 280,000 deaths worldwide and has spread to 4 million people.
