The new coronavirus caused more than 20,000 deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean, more than half of them in Brazil, according to a count based on official data from AFP, 10 May.
With a total of 20,150 deaths and 359,975 infections, Latin America is the hardest hit region after Europe and North America.
The hardest hit country in the region is Brazil, which has a total count of 10,627 deaths, representing more than half of all deaths in the Latin America and Caribbean. Mexico reported 3,353 deaths and Ecuador 2,127.
