The pop-up events will introduce education stakeholders and the general public to how 21st Century learning for children is being designed for the Bermuda Public School System.

The Learning First Programme is a critical arm of Education Reform. It involves the restructuring of the curriculum, teaching, learning and professional development to ensure all public schools are places where Bermuda’s children are educated to lead personally and professionally, compete locally and contribute globally.

The Ministry is encouraging students, parents, teachers, principals, school administrators, other school and Department staff, community education advocates, business professionals, and anyone else concerned about improving the public school system, to register for any of the upcoming pop-up events. They will experience first-hand the new possibilities for learning in our public schools.

Once individuals register, they will be provided with more specific details on the location and time-slot for the event. Each pop-up will be about 90 minutes and feature live testing exercises, as well as short, informative presentations from the Learning First team.

A spokeswoman for Learning First stated, “Throughout this week, stakeholders will test ideas of how we can transform learning for Bermuda’s students. In a COVID-safe environment, teams will test proposed prototypes for learning with members of the community offering their feedback and suggestions, so together Bermuda can design a learning framework that is best for children.”

Learning Prototypes that will be tested at the pop-up events include:

New learning environments and teacher practices
New ways of engaging parents and the community in learning
New approaches to curriculum
New forms of teacher professional development
New approaches to recognising student learning

The pop-up events aim to encourage wide community participation. This will help the Learning First team obtain diversity in feedback to reshape learning in the public school system. Once ideas and prototypes are solidified and aligned with the curriculum, teaching and learning, the Ministry of Education can then progress forward even more with education reform.
