COVID-19 UPDATE May 9

COVID-19 UPDATE May 9

Today there were 166 test results received by the Ministry of Health. None were positive for COVID-19.
Bermuda continues to have 118 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

- there are 47 active cases, of which
- 36 persons are under active public health monitoring, and
- 11 persons are hospitalized;
- a total of 64 have now recovered, and
- the total deceased remains 7.

The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 60 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 18 to 101 years. The age of persons hospitalized ranges between 64 and 91 years, and the average age is 77.

Earlier today a private plane carrying a family with young children was permitted to land at L.F. Wade International Airport. An application to quarantine at home was made by the family and approved as they met the relevant criteria given that persons under 18 are not required to be in a Government quarantine facility. The arriving passengers will be required to remain in quarantine in their home over the next 14 days.

The public is reminded that Quarantine (Incoming Traveller) Order 2020 requires any adult resident arriving in Bermuda to quarantine for 14 days at a designated Government facility. Unaccompanied minors are exempted and minor children are not separated from their parents. Regulation 3 of the Order provides for exemptions with approval of the Quarantine Authority, the Minister of Health. The Minister considers applications to quarantine at home for medical reasons and medical confirmation must be provided by a registered medical practitioner.

Persons granted approval to quarantine at home for medical reasons are under public health supervision for the duration of their quarantine period. They are required to monitor their health and report to a Public Health Officer until the end of quarantine. In addition, the Police conduct home advisory checks to ensure persons are adhering to quarantine requirements.

There will be no update to Bermuda’s COVID-19 statistics tomorrow. The Ministry of Health wishes all of Bermuda’s mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. The next update will be provided at the Government Press Conference on Monday afternoon.
