Bermuda welcomes persons who satisfy the requirements set out below to reside in Bermuda pursuant to section 32 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956 (“BIPA”).
Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be granted a Work From Bermuda One Year Residential Certificate (the “1Yr Certificate”) that permits them to work or study remotely from Bermuda.
However, the holder is prohibited from seeking or obtaining gainful employment within the tenure of his/her certificate. Each application will be considered on its own merits.
Persons should seek tax advice to fully understand the implications for their home country of residing in Bermuda.
“There is now the opportunity for employees, who I refer to as digital nomads, and university students to work and study, remotely from Bermuda”, said Premier David Burt.
Premier Burt added: “The international media have tracked the story and we have received many queries about this opportunity.”
The programme was announced in the House of Assembly on July 17 by Jason Hayward, the Minister of Labour, just two weeks after a similar programme was announced by the government of Barbados.
Benefits to Bermuda include a population increase, increased economic activity, greater job security for the locals, and a boost to the marketability of the island as a place to reside, visit, or do business.
The cost for the one-year certificate will be $263.
The form is available for applications at workfrombermuda.com.
