According to police spokesperson, shortly after 8:00pm this evening, police received a 911 call about a stabbing incident on Princess Street in the city of Hamilton.
Upon arrival officers found a 60-year-old male lying face down and unresponsive on the roadway. The officers commenced and administered CPR until the arrival of the Emergency Medical Services.
Officers began performing CPR on the victim until emergency services arrived and transported him to hospital via ambulance.
The 60-year-old man later died from the stabbing wounds in the hospital.
Police said a man was in custody in connection with the incident.
The incident happened on Princess Street, near its junction with Angle Street, at about 8pm.
The street was blocked off by police tonight as officers examined the scene.
Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security said at the scene before the death was announced that it was “a significant incident”.
Mr Caines added: “It’s just a sad situation. As a community, we are dealing with significant events around Covid-19. To have violence in our community, it really affects us."
A suspect has now been taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries into this matter.
