Thailand to be fully open for tourism in 4 months, says the Thai PM

Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, said in a televised address on Wednesday that he aims to open up the whole country to foreign tourists within the next 120 days starting today.
Fully vaccinated tourists will be permitted to visit the country without having to go through a quarantine. Prayut said he understands the risks, but it is necessary to ensure recovery of the economy.

To achieve the target, the government aims to have everyone receive a first shot "as soon as possible." He said 50 million people should get their first dose by October, which the government has signed contracts to procure a total of 105.5 million doses from six manufacturers by year end.

As per an earlier announcement, Thailand has been planning to open Phuket for vaccinated tourists, as a sandbox solution. The idea is that once a fully vaccinated tourist has spent 14 days in normal circumstances in Phuket, which counts as a so called quarantine period, the tourists can then freely travel in the rest of the country.
